Temporary Resident Permit

A Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is a document that authorizes a person who is inadmissible to enter or remain in Canada.

Temporary resident permit (TRP) is issued to foreign nationals who are considered inadmissible to enter Canada. TRP allows them to enter or to remain in Canada. PRP is issued if the applicant has compelling reasons to enter Canada and the need to enter Canada outweighs the risk posed to Canadian society. Requirements for TRP holders to apply for permanent residence:

  • Current valid TRP
  • Residence in Canada continuously with a valid TRP for three to five years
  • Not inadmissible under other grounds other than the reason they were issued the initial TRP
